What are Visian ICLs?

Visian ICLs are implantable contact lenses. That means we will place them inside your eye, via surgery, but will not remove the natural lens of your eye (as we do in cataract surgeries). These ICLs are made of collamer, which is a collagen copolymer. Since collagen is a naturally-produced substance in your body, these implantable contact lenses are exceedingly compatible and safe to put inside your eye. They are versatile as well; if your prescription changes over time, your ophthalmologist can change your Visian ICL via another simple, in-office surgery.

Who qualifies as a candidate for Visian ICL?

You might be a good candidate for Visian ICL if fall into any of the following categories:

  • You are between the ages of 21 and 45.
  • You are nearsighted (have myopia).
  • You have healthy eyes and no history of eye disease.
  • You have not had any vision-correcting surgeries.
  • You don’t want to be as dependent on glasses or contact lenses.
  • You do not qualify for other refractive procedures like LASIK.

What does the procedure entail?

Similar to cataract surgery as far as the techniques used, this procedure is an outpatient surgery. Using local anesthesia, we will numb your eye and gently insert the ICL through a micro-incision. The incision seals itself and does not require stitches. The Visian ICL will stay in place and help you see clearer!
