Dr. Howerton is
well known as a specialist in cataract and refractive
surgery. As part of
his expertise he has already obtained
certification to perform the new
Presbyopic
Surgery as soon as it is available
in the United States. The Howerton
Eye Center opened its own Ambulatory
Surgery Center in 1991 which now
houses
the Nidek EC-5000 excimer laser for
LASIK surgery in
Austin, Texas. Through a shared laser
center offsite we have access to
the
Visx, Bausch & Lomb and Ladar
Vision platforms. With access to
this
high-tech equipment, we can utilize
the laser best suited for the patient.

Dr. Howerton believes
that retaining a high level of excellence
in his practice begins with himself;
therefore, he is a member of the American
Society of Cataract and Refractive
Surgery, the American Academy
of Ophthalmology and the International
Society of Refractive Surgery.
Dr. Howerton sends his staff to ophthalmology
conferences and seminars so they remain
updated on all new technology, issues
and discoveries in ophthalmology.
Dr. Howerton received
his refractive surgery training from
the most prestigious surgeons and
pioneers in ophthalmology. His experience
with the microkeratome (used in LASIK)
dates back to the early 90’s.
Dr. Howerton also
performs the revolutionary LASEK/PRK procedure
for those patients who have corneas
too thin for standard LASIK.
Clearly,
his love of his profession is reflected
in
the dedication and priority he gives
to his patients. |
