The latest and greatest for people over 50 and people over 60 experiencing blurry vision due to cataracts are the Premium Lens Implants. Depending on the technological features of these IOLs, they may be described as "Accommodating IOLs", Appdizeddiffractive IOLs", or "Multifocal IOLs." Each of these lenses has some advantages and disadvantages. The one best for you depends on the unique characteristics of your eye as well as your lifestyle needs. You and your doctor will decide together which lens is more advantageous for you. When experiencing cataracts or presbyopia don't think glasses and contacts are your final option. Consider the Premium Lens Implants...they are a wonderful option for increasing your quality of life. Labels: Premium IOLs Refractive Lens Exchange

testimonial : I had previously had RK surgery in 1991. This procedure did not use lasers and the cornea was actually cut like a pie. My eyesight remained quite good until I started needing reading glasses about 12 years later. I decided to let Dr. Rhodes do a PRK eye surgery to produce a monovision effect, which is one eye can see close up to read the other for distance. It did take a while for my brain to get used to this arrangement but it has worked out very well (it's been 8 months). One other benefit has been that the "halo" effect from the first 1991 surgery seemed to be diminished and bright lights driving at night do not bother me as much since the PRK. It has been somewhat scary to have another eye surgery but I don't have to wear glasses and my ability to read and see distance is very good. The support I've gotten from both Dr Rhodes and Theresa has been excellent. They have always been there for me when I had a question or problem. "What a LIFE CHANGING experience!!!" I have heard so many people say those exact words at their LASIK post-op visits. My office is next door to our LASIK procedure room and it is wonderful to see each person walk out of just having the procedure and saying to their family members "I can see you!" I know some people are nervous about the procedure or think it is too costly, but in reality, it is a very safe procedure. The important things are recovery period and the post-op visits. Most important is to rest, rest, rest, immediately after the procedure...Keep your eyes closed and relaxed that evening and the next day come in for your first post-op to visit the Doc. If you follow the basic recovery instructions all should be perfectly fine. Regarding the cost - it is $3200 for both eyes. We may sometimes be running a special. With financing it could be as little as $81 per month. That's less than $3 a day!!! We are not selling LASIK, we are providing a better lifestyle. If dependence on glasses or contacts is holding you back from an active lifestyle consider LASIK. Watch our video to provide more information on the procedure or contact us for a FREE CONSULTATION.

With today's modern technology and advanced intraocular lenses it is possible for people with cataracts and presbyopia to regain the vision they had in their 20s - or better. It is absolutely amazing to see the dramatic results people experience with these lenses. Although most people over the age of 60 experience some level of blurry vision due to cataracts, and almost everyone over 40 loses their ability to read comfortably without glasses, the New Advanced Multifocal Lenses now make it possible to regain the vision more like that of younger eyes. Multifocal Lenses provide high-quality vision at all distances...near, intermediate, and far, and in almost every lighting condition. For people who have cataracts, these implantable multifocal lenses can replace the clouded natural lens of the eye. For presbyopic patients, the natural lens of the eye can be exchanged for an implantable multifocal lens. If you enjoy an active lifestyle and are tired of being dependant on glasses and contact lenses it is time to consult with your ophthalmologist about treatment options. Contact Dr. Berkowitz for a consultation. Dr. Berkowitz has over 26 years of experience and has performed over 17,000 cataract, corneal, and refractive surgical procedures. He is dedicated to Ophthalmology and committed to patient care.

Refractive Lens Exchange corrects nearsightedness and farsightedness, using an inrtaocular lens implant. Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE) may be the procedure of choice for patients who are too nearsighted, too farsighted, or have corneas that are too thin for laser vision correction. It is also an alternative for those over the age of 40 and may be showing signs of developing cataracts. Millions of eyes have received intraocular lens implants when undergoing cataract surgery. The primary difference between cataract surgery and RLE is that cataract surgery is performed to remove a patient's cloudy lens, and Refractive Lens Exchange is performed to reduce one's dependence on glasses or contact lenses. Performed as an outpatient procedure, the natural lens is removed using ultrasonic vibrations through a very small microincision and replaced through that same incision with an intraocular lens. The patient remains comfortable as the eye is completely anesthetized. Everyone heals differently, but many patients report improvement in their vision almost immediately, and most resume their normal activities within a day or two. One eye is done at a time, and the second eye is usually done in a week or two. This great technology is helping millions of people improve their quality of life. Austin Refractive Lens Exchange procedures are increasing and Dr. Berkowitz is providing Austinites with these unique implantable multifocal lenses proven to provide excellent vision at all distances and helping people gain independence from glasses for the first time. Dr. Berkowitz has performed over 17,000 cataract, corneal, and refractive surgical procedures. He has been using multifocal intraocular lenses for over 10 years and in the Rio Grande Valley was one of the first surgeons to perform topical anesthesia, no stitch cataract surgery, multifocal intraocular lens implants, and refractive surgery. If cataracts and presbyopia are affecting your quality of life, now is the time to contact Dr. Berkowitz about treatment options.
